Bermuda Grass
Bermuda grass is an amazing life-form.
Consider all it can survive
- dehydration
- semi-regular decapitation
- poisoning
- extreme malnutrition
- burning
- repeated beatings
- invasion by insects
- and even drowning in dog urine!
Would it therefore be desirable to reincarnate as bermuda grass?

Learning the Lingo
Awww… I have the kindest readers! Not one correction from any of you – thank you!
This evening I have discovered the world of passiflora. This world comes complete with discussion boards, blogs, web resources galore, and so many people who know that ‘passion flower’ or ‘passion fruit’ is acceptable language but ‘passion fruit flower’ is only used by the uneducated. You can call me ‘educated’ now. The project remains the same – growing passion vines from seed through fruit and back again. I can’t wait to explore this new world further. Wish me luck…
Old School Film
So I decided to take the ‘old school’ (read – not digital) camera on vacation and I had a great time taking pictures. Today I went in to have them developed and put on a disc. I filled out all of the envelopes at the one hour counter, had a long conversation with the employee while doing that, put all of the film rolls into the envelopes, then handed them over – only to be told that the processor is not working and my one-hour photos will not be ready until Thursday. So ‘one hour’ really means 3 days! And he couldn’t have told me this while he complained about his kid spending all of his money? Or perhaps when I asked him a question about the order form and he realized I wanted prints?! I can’t even blame this on a ‘young kid’ since this guy was easily my age. Good thing I’m patient right! (And there’s no need to laugh at that line!) Anyway, on Thursday, assuming the photos are ready, I’ll be posting some vacation pics. But then we all know what happens when you assume.
Home Again
It is such a pleasure to be home again. We had a beautiful trip up, and down, the west coast. Pictures to follow. However, nothing compares to my own bed, in my own home, with my own garden. 🙂
Passion Fruit Saga #4
The passion fruit plants have been moved outside. They are healthy but not growing as quickly as I expected.
I suppose that is fine since the site isn’t ready for them yet. Our Lady is looking a bit lonely still but the grass is dead and partially cleared. By the end of August I hope to have the bed in. I could do it sooner, but then I have to ignore the rest of my life and – not happening! So, here is the current situation.
I will be so happy to have that hideous fence out of my vision! And perhaps the obnoxious dogs on the other side with calm a bit when they can’t see through.
It’s Not The Bears
As some readers may know I’m 60 pounds lighter than I was a year ago. This is not accidental, I am not ill, I did this intentionally. It took, and still takes, a lot of thought and effort. Initially I needed help so I signed on with a nationally known program. I’m a very satisfied customer. But this blog entry isn’t about the program, or how I did and do what I’m doing, it’s about motivation. I only mention the program because they send cute little bears to you for every 10 pounds lost. Just got my latest box and inside was the pretty little 60 lb. bear! Love those bears. But, hey, they are a ridiculous motivator actually. I know I don’t do this for the bears, this latest one just got me thinking about why I do this and what keeps me going.
So here are my top 10 motivators –
- I no longer have to buy plus sized clothing.
- I am able to play with the grandkids for longer than 5 minutes.
- Small children (and some snotty adults) no longer ask when my baby is coming.
- I found yoga after starting my weight loss and yoga+me=a happier person.
- I can out-walk my teenager. (Notice I didn’t say out-talk!)
- The water in the tub actually drains around my body. (If you’ve been there you get this completely.)
- My knees, hips, … no longer ache for no known reason.
- My energy level is up, even when I’m exhausted.
- Cuddling (and all the rest) with my husband is easier/more fun/just plain better.
- When I look in the mirror I recognize myself.
Bottom line – The little things matter, I do this for me.
New Look
Savasana
To feed my obsession with those yoga sketches, because that cloud outside my kitchen window intrigued me this afternoon, and to answer lucavanessa‘s question of last week, I painted a bit today. This where I go in savasana.
Passion Fruit Project #3
I got some work in this evening on the passion fruit project! I’m killing the grass. The area is larger than it appears and I want to spare myself all of the future grass invasion I can so… I’m killing the grass, bit by bit, and digging it all out. I’m not naive enough to believe that it will never come back, but I need an advantage in the fight ahead. I made the mistake of just pulling out and digging up the grass under the vegetable boxes and it is a daily battle now. Bermuda grass is the worst! Anyway, it was nice to get out there and get a little bit done. I couldn’t go out until nearly 5:00PM because of the heat but I got part of the fence line cleared and about half of the rest sprayed. I’ve got one more week to get it cleared. I’m confident!
