It’s Not The Bears

July 21, 2010

As some readers may know I’m 60 pounds lighter than I was a year ago.  This is not accidental, I am not ill, I did this intentionally.  It took, and still takes, a lot of thought and effort.  Initially I needed help so I signed on with a nationally known program.  I’m a very satisfied customer.  But this blog entry isn’t about the program, or how I did and do what I’m doing, it’s about motivation.  I only mention the program because they send cute little bears to you for every 10 pounds lost.  Just got my latest box and inside was the pretty little 60 lb. bear!  Love those bears.  But, hey, they are a ridiculous motivator actually.  I know I don’t do this for the bears, this latest one just got me thinking about why I do this and what keeps me going.

So here are my top 10 motivators –

  1. I no longer have to buy plus sized clothing.
  2. I am able to play with the grandkids for longer than 5 minutes.
  3. Small children (and some snotty adults) no longer ask when my baby is coming.
  4. I found yoga after starting my weight loss and yoga+me=a happier person.
  5. I can out-walk my teenager. (Notice I didn’t say out-talk!)
  6. The water in the tub actually drains around my body.  (If you’ve been there you get this completely.)
  7. My knees, hips, … no longer ache for no known reason.
  8. My energy level is up, even when I’m exhausted.
  9. Cuddling (and all the rest) with my husband is easier/more fun/just plain better.
  10. When I look in the mirror I recognize myself.

Bottom line – The little things matter, I do this for me.
